Children experience the same phenomenon, but their story often begins much earlier.
For infants and children, physical stress frequently starts during pregnancy and birth. Long labors, rapid deliveries, vacuum extraction, forceps use, or cesarean births can place significant forces on a developing spine, cranium, and nervous system. As children grow, they continue collecting physical experiences. They learn to roll, crawl, stand, walk, climb, jump, and run. They tumble off furniture, fall off bikes, crash into teammates, and occasionally land in positions that make parents cringe.
Most of these experiences are completely normal. In fact, they are part of how the nervous system develops. The challenge arises when the body is unable to fully adapt and reorganize after those experiences. Over time, stress begins to stack.
Because children are still developing, these changes do not always show up as pain. They may appear as coordination challenges, poor posture, sensory difficulties, emotional dysregulation, sleep struggles, developmental delays, headaches, digestive issues, or a child who seems to be working harder than they should for everyday tasks.
